Beautiful People Season 2 Wrap Up!

Last nights season 2 finale of British sitcom Beautiful People was nothing short of genius! Quite easily the best episode of the show ever!

Touching, heartwarming and a shining beacon to all gay teenagers out there!

This season has seen the show go from strength to strength and for those of you who don’t know much about Beautiful People, then here is a summary for you.

Simon has always dreamed of escaping suburban Reading for a life amongst the “beautiful people” in New York. He yearns to be one of them and can’t even open a fridge door without belting out a show tune.

The first season had Simon working as a window dresser for Barneys New York (the show is loosely based on the memoirs of Barneys creative director Simon Doonan), who tells various stories to his assistant/boyfriend about growing up in Reading, England. Via the flashbacks we meet a teenage Simon, his best friend “Kylie” (named of course after his fave pop star!) and a variety of dysfunctional family members and friends!

Season 2 opened with a somewhat older and newly broken-hearted Simon returning to Melody Crescent and Reading to recall more delicious memories from1998. One of my fave episodes this season was a guest appearance by pop diva Dannii Minogue starring as her 1998 self (including same outfit worn for her big comeback hit “All I Wanna Do”) ringing in to Aunt Haley’s psychic hotline for advice, and getting mighty upset when Hayley mistakes her for Kylie! (Poor little goldfish!)

Other Season 2 celebrity guest stars included Dana International and Elaine Paige!

We must all collectively hope the numbers were big enough for a Season 3 as this show has SO much depth and many more wonderful stories to tell!

I have added two video clips from this season……the outrageously funny scenes between Dannii and Aunt Haley and the final scene from the finale episode! I defy you to not be moved!

No, not that crap American tv show. The brilliantly fabulous UK show, loosely based on the diaries of Simon Doonan, returned on Friday for the debut of it’s second season. If you never watched the first season then you are all criminally insane and should be shot on the spot! Run off and watch some right now……..go on…….i’ll wait.
