NBC To Pick Up 24?

Seems the whispers around the Hollywood watercooler today is that 20th Century Fox has approached NBC about picking up 24 if Fox opt to cancel it, and that the Peacock is considering it.

“There’s definitely some interest,” says an insider close to the talks.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Fox is nearing a decision to end the serial thriller after eight seasons due to declining ratings and rising costs.

A move to NBC, while still considered somewhat of a long shot given the hefty price tag, would likely delay Fox’s plans to launch a Jack Bauer film franchise. From a production standpoint, 24 execs have stated that it would be next to impossible to make a movie while the series was still on the air.

Reps for 20th Century Fox and NBC declined to comment.

Thoughts?

Everyone wants a piece of  Betty White!

Hot on the heels of her confirmed Saturday Night Live hosting stint, the TV legend has signed on to guest star in the season finale of ABC’s The Middle.

White will play a school librarian who confronts Brick, played by Atticus Shaffer, about his failure to return numerous overdue books.

On Thursday, NBC confirmed that the ex Golden Girl will be hosting a special Women of Comedy-themed SNL on May 8 featuring Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Molly Shannon, Rachel Dratch, Maya Rudolph, and Ana Gasteyer.

We simply cannot get enough of Betty!

Looks Like Scrubs Is Done!

With just one more episode left in its arsenal, Scrubs 2.0 appears to be winding down, but is it really, truly ending this time around?

At first we were skeptical about its season-nine revival, the whole notion of an entirely new cast and Zach Braff-less episodes left us scratching our heads, but it ended up having it’s moments in the sun (albeit, not too many!) and some ofthe characters were being fleshed out really well (Dr.Mahoney!).

Now that show staples like Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke have booked other pilots, it’s time to consider that tough question once again: Is Scrubs finally bye-byes?

Sadly, Scrub-bers, while Bill is hopeful for a lifelong run of our favorite funny docs, it’s highly unlikely at this point.

“In my heart and head I felt like Scrubs ended last year,” Bill told us before the Cougar Town panel at the Paley TV Festival. “This year was a bit of a spinoff, but I really liked it, I liked what they did. They worked really hard.”

Having said that, the brilliant brain behind the long-running series is anticipating its end.

“I’m always very honest,” Bill said. “I say it’s a one in 10 chance that it’s going to be on after the next two weeks.”

So what’s next? Aside from Cougar Town ,which we highly recommend you watch after Modern Family on Wednesdays, Bill has big plans for Scrubs.

“Scrubs is going to be on forever. We’ll come do it at our garage,” he teased. “For anybody that’s a huge fan, I’m still going to be doing it in my backyard at least once or twice a week, if they want to come.”

I, for one, would be front and center at Bill’s house when they do! Long live Scrubs!

V – Big Moments When Returning!

If you’re still up in the air about tuning back into ABC’s sci-fi thriller when it returns at the end of the month, the Los Angeles Times Show Tracker’s chat with V boss Scott Rosenbaum might just entice you to watch.

“There will be three or four huge, oh-my-God, wow…I-didn’t-see-that-coming [moments],” he promises.

Plus, big things to come between Anna (Morena Baccarin) and Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell).

“Those two are…circling each other, looking for each other’s weaknesses and then—boom—the fight happens.” Alright, twist our arm, we’re in!

Sounds like it’s going to be awesome!

Dexter Season 5 Sneak Peek

I’ve updated the discussion on the messageboard as well – come join, it’s free, fun, and you can feel internet important.

Entertainment Weekly got some tidbits from Executive Producer Sara Colleton on season 5 – warning this can be constituted by some to be some big bad SPOILER ACTION.

“We have spent the last month sitting around, talking and really debating how best to deal with the aftermath of [Rita's death]. We uniformly decided that we don’t want to jump ahead. We need to see Dexter go through the process that we’d all have to go through if such a horrible thing had happened to us. We need to see him doing everything from the big emotional things like grieving the loss, to the mundane things like arranging a funeral, getting the kids dressed, and all the other things that are usually done for men because their wives or mothers do them. They have no idea how to handle all of these things. As we saw, Rita was really the caretaker of their baby. It would be cheating the audience of their catharsis to not see Dexter go through that mourning period and see how it affects him or to not see him dealing with the blowback of what he essentially caused. So we will not jump to Harrison as a 5 year old yet.”

On the standard formula of Dexter chasing a single enemy through 13 episodes:

“John Lithgow is a tough act to follow. If there was ever a year that we could take a step back from the Big Bad formula and go deeper into Dexter and his psychology, this would be that year. That said, Dexter has a dark passenger that won’t go away no matter how much he yearns to be normal. That rears up and needs to be dealt with. He may even dive deeper after this traumatic loss of Rita. We are working on a way that feels original and fresh and unique to what he has just gone through. It cannot be the way it has been before. In [Season 1], he was terrified of any kind of intimacy because intimacy equaled being discovered. Then he slowly realized he had a need to be known and he set up a family and tried the best he could to balance it all. And now, he sees what being known brings him and he had it ripped out from underneath him suddenly and that will have some affect on him.”

Now if you’re following the discussion, you know my thoughts and what I want from a fifth season…this looks like a good start.

Frankly offing Rita was a good start so I guess kudos to a good finale for season 4, let’s keep it going.

Spock To Hit Big Bang Theory?!

Sheldon’s dream of meeting Leonard Nimoy may soon become a reality on The Big Bang Theory. Executive producer Bill Prady says the hit sitcom will likely approach the Star Trek legend early next season about making a cameo.

“We’ll probably make a general inquiry,” says Prady. “And if there’s enough interest, we’ll develop a story. The fans have said that’s the dream get, and we agree.”

Nimoy declined an invitation to appear on Big Bang back in season 2, although the 78-year-old has since returned to television with a recurring gig on Fringe.

“There’s always an issue with actors playing themselves,” Prady theorizes, “which most actors would rather not do.”

Perhaps Nimoy would be more amenable to playing a cloned version of himself? Sheldon does, after all, possess a napkin with the actor’s DNA on it.

“I think [cloning Nimoy] is beyond even Sheldon’s capabilities at this point,” says Prady with a laugh. “Although I wouldn’t underestimate him.”

How cool would this be?

Fringe Gets Third Season!

Sci-fi fans who may be concerned about the state of the genre on network TV (we’re looking at you, V and FlashForward) have at least one reason to rejoice!

Fox has picked up Fringe for a third season. Though the show isn’t exactly blowing the roof off of Nielsen — it’s been averaging just 7.6 million viewers and is ranked No. 50 in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic this season — it managed to survive in a tough new time period on Thursdays. The show returns with new episodes — and the promise of more visits from Leonard Nimoy and to the parallel universe — on April 1.

Grey’s Loses Two More Doctors!

It looks like Grey’s Anatomy will be down two doctors next season, and, believe it or not, neither of them are played by Katherine Heigl!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Mercy West transplants Robert Baker (Dr. Percy) and Nora Zehetner (Dr. Adamson) are not expected to return next season.

There’s no official word on the fate of fellow “invaders” Jesse Williams (Dr. Avery) and Sarah Drew (Dr. Kepner), but there’s buzz both may stick around long-term. Grey’s boss Shonda Rhimes has until June to decide whether to exercise the series regular options in their contracts. (Here’s hoping she does; I like those two.)

Heigl’s MIA Izzie, meanwhile, will reappear in April. But for how long? Confides an ABC source: “No one knows.”

More News About NPH On Glee!

So……….here’s the scoop!

According to a Glee insider, NPH will play Bryan Adam, a high school glee club nemesis of Will’s (Matthew Morrison) who resurfaces as a board member at William McKinley.

“Flashback scenes will show Bryan picking up girls and getting all the cool solos,” reveals the source, “while Will sits off in the sidelines.”

The stage for a present-day rematch is set when Harris’ character announces his intent to cut the arts programs at the school.

“Show choir ruined his life, made him feel he could be a star, but all he could do is book Carnival cruises,” explains the insider. “Now he wants vengeance.”

The episode — which will feature a climactic duet between Harris and Morrison — goes before the cameras next week and is slated to air during May sweeps.

Smallville Renewed For 10th Season!

The early pickup hardly comes as a surprise given how well the show has been performing in its new Friday timeslot. As The CW points out, the series has “dramatically improved” the network’s performance on the night in all major demo categories, including adults 18-34 (up 67 percent), men 18-34 (up 200 percent), adults 18-49 (up 75 percent), men 18-49 (183 percent), and total viewers (74 percent).

There’s no word if season 10 will be the show’s last.

Two weeks ago, The CW extended early renewals to Gossip Girl, 90210, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, and America’s Next Top Model. The jury’s still out on One Tree Hill, Melrose Place, and Life Unexpected.

Michelle Rodriguez Back On LOST!

Michelle Rodriguez is the latest ex-815er to book a return trip to Lost.

Sources confirmed that Rodriguez will reprise her role as late tail-end survivor Ana-Lucia in at least one of the show’s final episodes.

Rodriguez, who was killed off in season 2, returned in season 5 when Ana-Lucia appeared in one of Hurley’s visions.

There’s no word where or exactly when Ana-Lucia will resurface this time around, but can anyone say “flash-sideways?”

Rodriguez joins a growing list of Lost alums guest-starring this season. Said list includes Maggie Grace, Harold Perrineau, Cynthia Watros, and Rebecca Mader.

Leno Beats Letterman!

As expected, viewers definitely tuned in to see Jay Leno’s return to The Tonight Show last night: the comedian led the time period over Late Show with David Letterman and ABC’s combination of Nightline and Jimmy Kimmel Live by 80 percent, according to NBC. Leno scored a 5.4 rating/14 share in 56 metered markets last night while Letterman earned a 3.0/8, Nightline, a 3.4/8 and Live, a 1.8/6. In the 25 markets with People Meters, Leno was No. 1 in the time period.

At 12:35 a.m, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon also beat CBS’s Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson by a margin of 40 percent. NBC is expected to release early national ratings later today.

Sci-fi dramas like ABC’s FlashForward may have a tough time attracting new viewers when it returns with originals on March 18: The freshman drama lost 43 percent of its viewers last fall while the network’s V was down 35 percent over four airings (it also doesn’t help that FlashForward is on its third show runner now that co-creator/executive producer David Goyer has decided to leave the show to focus on his film career). So it’s hardly surprising that none of the Big Four nets have a sci-fi show in development for the 2010-11 season.

At least the ABC-owned FlashForward (unlike the Warner Bros. owned V) has an ace in the hole: It does well in the U.K., Italy, and Spain, and the robust international sales could sway the network to pick up the Joseph Fiennes series for another season. ABC may not make a decision on FlashForward and V, which returns March 30, until right before its upfront presentation in New York this May.

Several ABC dramas, in fact, have yet to receive pickups for another season, though Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and Brothers and Sisters are slam dunks. Comedies like Cougar Town, The Middle and Modern Family have already been picked up, while shows like Ugly Betty have already been cancelled. Long shots include Better Off Ted, The Deep End, Scrubs and The Forgotten.

There Is A God After All!

And no, I don’t mean because of Mr. Sheen’s need to go to rehab, for that he should be praised! I meant because it means we get a few weeks respite from his DAMN AWFUL show!

Variety reports that the short-term future of CBS’ “Two and a Half Men” suddenly became cloudy after word emerged Tuesday that star Charlie Sheen is voluntarily entering rehab.

Production on the Warner Bros. TV series shut down abruptly after Sheen’s rep, Stan Rosenfield, released a statement confirming that the actor has entered rehab.

“Men”  (for some inexplicable reason) is TV’s most-watched comedy, and was in production this week on the 19th episode of its 24-episode season. Sheen’s entry into rehab comes on the heels of his legal troubles stemming from his arrest for allegedly threatening his wife, Brooke Mueller, with a knife in Colorado on Christmas Day. Sheen is facing a domestic violence charge in the case. He’s awaiting a March 15 court date to formally enter a plea.

“As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility,” read the statement. “He has asked that his privacy be honored. No further statements are planned.”

Sheen’s decision clearly caught the Eye and Warner Bros. by surprise. There is no word yet as to which way they are going to go with this. End the season early, or run it longer than other shows by waiting for him to get out!

Well boys and girls, this is where following everyone and watching the all trending topics on Twitter pays off – you get to be in on the ground floor and say “I knew about it before…Captain Kirk was in it”.

Yes, the Hollywood Reporter has announced William Shatner is set to star in the television spin off of highly popular Twitter Shit My Dad Says, which is essentially presented as the one-off no- nonsense observations of an elderly man who says what he thinks.

Word is, this will be a sitcom. I personally might find it funnier if Shatner just spent 22 minutes saying the lines to a studio audience with nothing but a brick wall behind him and…oh wait, that’s Evening at The Improv I’m thinking of.

Archer Renewed for Season 2

Archer will return for 2011! The news is out that FX ordered 13 episodes for season 2 to air in 2011.

Gives you guys just long enough to get your hands on some Sealab 2021 to see what Adam Reed and Matt Thompson were up to before FX gave them the cash for Archer.

Also if you’re not watching Important Things with Demetri Martin I suggest you do – lots of H. Jon Benjamin in that. That, and Demetri Martin has a certain Mitch Hedberg feel to his show that myself really I like.

Glee Goes To Washington!

Sources have confirmed that U.S First Lady Michelle Obama has invited the cast of Glee to perform at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday, April 5 — and, barring any last-minute glitches, they’re gonna do it!

Rumor has it Mrs. O and her daughters are big fans of the show. And since a White House gig is an offer that’s pretty darn hard to refuse, Glee’s producers did some lickety-split schedule rejiggering in order to honor the request.
